Welcome to the Hamilton City Libraries Auaha makerspace. Auaha is a new community and technology space at the front of the Central Library. It's a collaborative work space for making, learning, exploring and sharing that uses high tech and no tech tools. There is some cool tech available as well as lots of opportunities to explore and find new interests. We are keen to promote sustainability by up-cycling pre-loved materials where possible.


Auaha opening hours

Thursday: 10.30am - 4.30pm

Friday: 10.30am - 4.30pm

Saturday: 10am - 2pm


Our kit includes 

UP Box+ 3D printer

This printer allows the creation of a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model, by laying down many thin layers of filament. 3D printers are starting to appear in the workplace and can perform crucial roles in manufacturing, medicine, architecture, custom art and design. Learn to understand the technology and how the system operates.

Emblaser2 laser cutter

A laser cutter and engraver can cut, mark or engrave cloth, cardboard, paper, wood and so much more. You can add a personal touch to almost any item or make your own customized objects.

Roland BN-20 printer and cutter

The BN-20 is perfect for creating graphics, poster prints, stickers and decals.

Focusrite Scarlett Solo Pack and Recording Studio

Create high-quality recordings of songs, podcasts, the spoken word and poetry. Features a USB audio interface, mic, and headphones in a studio environment.

One by Wacom

Use these graphics tablets to sketch, draw and edit photos with a digital pen. Drawing tablets are not just for artists, wow your boss with your design and presentation skills in any number of industries.

Computer suite

We have a suite of four Mac computers with a number of programmes installed including Garageband, iMovie, Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher.

How to get things made at Auaha

We've set up Auaha to have no or low costs for making. 

3D Printing 

The cost for 3D printing is 20 cents per gram. We use both ABS and PLA filament and make an effort to recycle all wastage. 

Vinyl cutter

The cost of stickers printed through our vinyl cutter is $1 per 100mm by 480mm.

Laser cutter

We have 3mm MDF and Plywood available for purchase in two sizes- 
Plywood 500mm x 300mm $12 ea.
Plywood 250mm x 150mm $5 ea.
MDF 500mm x 300mm $8 ea.
MDF 250mm x 150mm $3 ea.

Please note: there are elements that can effect the success of engraving and/or cutting that are out of our control. However we will work with you to make it right.
We also
do not accept outside materials for use on the laser cutter due to safety reasons.

Sewing machine
